VDS GT001-R - Test days

The VDS GT001-R back on track at Spa-Francorchamps

VDS GT001-RWhilst on the one hand the competitors of the 24 Hours of Spa are readying themselves for this major meeting of the season, in the ranks of VDS Cars, the development work on the VDS GT001-R has taken off following the constructive work carried out in the wind tunnel of the Institut Aéro Technique de Saint-Cyr-l’Ecole, in the vicinity of Versailles.
And as previously announced it is in … Spa-Francorchamps that the test programme was back under way at the beginning of the week.

José Close and Erik Qvick took it in turns during two days at the wheel of the latest Belgian car to date, with as prime objective to validate the data collated during the various tests carried out in the wind tunnel.
The outcome of these two test days is positive, and this is only a beginning, Raphaël van der Straten, the brainchild behind the VDS GT001-R commented. We were able to observe the progress made on the aerodynamic front, but we still have work to do. The front leaf and the rear extractor still need to be modified in order to improve resistance. Once this is the case the results in terms of efficiency should be quite spectacular.

Seeing the suspension fitted to the VDS GT001-R is not as yet in its final version, the VDS Cars team principally focussed the two days of work on validating various technical data. Following the car’s new evolution, the final setting-up can resume.
We will then continue with our test programme in the coming weeks, and prior to return of winter our objective is to spend two days driving on the Mettet circuit, before clocking up more kilometres at Zolder, and then heading off down to the south of France, Raphaël van der Straten continued. Once these new development days completed the car will be ready for shipment to Dubai, in order to compete in the now traditional first 24 hours endurance race of the season.

So no winter rest in the VDS Cars ranks. As for Raphaël van der Straten, while waiting to get back behind the wheel of the GT001-R, he will be competing in the 24 Hours of Zolder (31stAugust and 1st September) at the wheel of a Ligier Prototype entered by VDS Racing Adventures with the support of Qvick Motors, before taking on the 24 Hours of Barcelona (6th -7th– 8th September), this time behind the wheel of the VDS Racing Adventures Honda Civic.
In other words screeching off to a good start …
